BEAUTIFUL FREE WEIGHTS

“My eyes are starving for beauty!”

-André Leon Talley

Why can’t fitness equipment be beautiful? In 2015, this question led us to the HEFT project. HEFT offers gorgeous, custom hand-made free weights worthy of display. Enough hiding ugly, plastic, mass-produced weights in the corner. HEFT sets are timeless furniture pieces in themselves, and their display in the home seamlessly incorporates wellness into the rhythms of everyday life.

These weights are sculptures that want to be touched and used. Their perfect curvature and satisfying density makes them a pleasure to hold as well as to behold. Every element of each HEFT weight is shaped carefully by hand, and each handle showcases a unique grain pattern.

Sustainably sourced and masterfully crafted, HEFT free weights are of the highest possible quality.

MATERIALS

“Trees have a yearning to live again, to provide the beauty, strength and utility to serve man, even become an object of great artistic worth.”

- George Nakashima

TORCH free weights wed the natural to the industrial, matching classic stainless steel with handles turned from carefully selected wood stock. Each pair or set of TORCH weights has a grain pattern all its own, as varied as the trees that define them

MALLET dumbbells are made of solid cast Iron ends. Each hand-shaped handle pairs brass, natural wood, and leather for an amazing looking and feeling grip.

OUR WOODS:

WALNUT is North America’s only naturally deep brown hardwood. Typically reserved for the rarest gunstocks, pipes, and knife handles, the finest walnut displays an intricate, marbled depth of grain.

LIVE OAK is among the world’s densest hardwoods. These trees were once treasured by shipbuilders for their incredible strength and durability.

LEOPARDWOOD is native to the Australian outback. The grain of this dense, fragrant wood features the exotic patterns that give leopardwood its name.

While we love using this core trio of woods, we are always looking for exciting pieces that will yield uniquely beautiful grain. Check in regularly or Contact Us to see what new weights are up for offer.

OUR DESIGN PROCESS

Starting in 2015, we have been working to refine and perfect our free weight designs. Head designer and craftsman Shane MacIntosh grounds his design in the sensibilities and traditions he learned studying fine-furniture making. The search for the the best materials took us from wood, to cast concrete, to manufactured stone, and finally to hand-shaped metal. Our experience in refined design has led us to the place we are now: the best materials, made well, by hand.
